I had two Halloween costumes this year. The American outfit I used for a Halloween festival a couple days ago, and today for Halloween I am sporting an East German uniform.
Both outfits have historical inaccuracies, but I think they convey the image enough to regular people. At the festival a lot of American veterans said hello to me and seemed pleased as well, which was nice. I was afraid I’d get told off about the inaccuracies. But some things I am using are real military issue. The American helmet is a real American helmet, though I suspect it is from the 60’s/70’s. The East German tunic and hat are also real issue. The rest is just my own wardrobe. I also have had all of this stuff and more for years, so I didn’t go out and buy anything just for this holiday.
TL;DR I am a history nerd that likes uniforms.
